Timeline   Middle of the Night
When Steph woke up in the middle of the night, she was in a dark room. At first she became very scared because she didn’t know where she was. Lying still she searched her memory for what happened and how she got there.

It took awhile before Kermit came to mind. Once she thought of him she suddenly became aware of him snuggled up behind her in the tiny twin bed. Beds for enlisted crewmen were never designed for two.

Sure beats a sleeping on a cot in a freezing cold cargo bay with dozens of other people, she thought with a smile. Even if the accomodations were a little snug she was a lot more comfortable with him. She felt his hot breath against the back of her neck. She could feel one of his arms draped over her body while his other hand rested between her bare thighs.

She never expected things to happen so quickly, but once they were together it was like they had never been apart. The little voice inside her head, the one that told her to run from him, disappeared the moment he kissed her. Whatever anger she had or pain she carried ran away with it. They were starting over together. Things were going to be new and different this time.

She felt him stir behind her. His skin was so warm against hers.

She tried to get back to sleep but even closing her eyes didn’t help. She hated to get up but she had to move around and do something other htan just lay there. Shifting out from under the covers she heard him moan softly. Getting up, she pulled on one of his shirts. She sniffed the collar and it smelled like him. She liked wearing his shirts.

She stretched and yawned. Turning around she looked at him. He looked so handsome sleepng like that. I wonder if he’s dreaming about me, she thought. She walked over and touched his hair. It was longer than she had ever seen it. It was long enough he could run a comb through it but not really long enough to style or do much with. But he looked good with hair.

She leaned against his dresser and watched him sleeep. She started thinking about their future together and life aboard the Dove. But the Dove’s gone, she realized. Where would they start over together? He was on the Montoya. Who knew where she was going to be sent? Things were going so well but the ship issue could split them apart.

She wanted to talk to him about it. If he could tell her things would be okay she would believe him. But she didn’t want to wake him.

She crawled back into bed with him, pulling his arm over her shoulders. Closing her eyes, she felt him squeeze her tight. I’ll go whereever he goes, she thought. And smiling she fell asleep.
